Elks Student Scholarships Available

The Elks National Foundation has allocated $4.16 million to run its three college scholarship programs for the 2015-2016 year, according to Ray Humble, Boulder Elks Lodge #566 scholarship chairman.

Each year the Elks National Foundation awards 500 Most Valuable Student Scholarships — $2.74 million to be awarded this year.

Applications and details on these four-year college scholarships, ranging in value from $4,000 to $50,000, are available by visiting http://www.elks.org/enf/scholars. Any high school senior who is a US citizen can apply. Applications are due by December 4, 2015, to the Elks Lodge nearest the applicants home. The Boulder Elks also presents scholarships to some of these students based on the MVS applications.

Elks National Foundation offers two other scholarship categories, Legacy Awards and Emergency Educational Grants.

Legacy Awards — Each year 250 children and grandchildren of Elks members receive four-year college scholarships worth $4,000 each. College-bound high school seniors who are children or grandchildren of dues paying Elks can apply. Applications must be submitted on line on or before 11:59 a.m. central time on January 29, 2016.

Emergency Educational Grants provide college financial assistance to the children of deceased or totally disabled Elks in the form of renewable, one-year grants of up to $4,000 a year. Applicants must be attending an accredited college or university as a full-time student, demonstrate financial need, be unmarried, and under the age of 23 on December 31. Applications are due by October 31, 2015. All applications must be submitted to the lodge where the applicant’s parent is or was a member.
